Of all the things Seville has to offer; from flamenco and fine arts to amazing tapas, it also has the bohemian, boutique hotel Corral del Rey in the particularly appealing streets of old Barrio Alfalfa. This riad-style hotel oozes intimacy and is spread across 13 rooms, including 6 suites. The bedrooms are divided into four categories; superior, deluxe, junior suite and penthouse suite. They also have spacious apartments, which can allocate up to five people, making it perfect for those travelling with a family or group of friends. 

Both Anglo-Iberian owners, brothers Anthony and Patrick Reid made their name in Spain with Hacienda San Rafael, an 18th-century olive mill turned luxury inn that opened in 1992, in the depths of Seville's countryside. The entrepreneurial brothers inaugurated Corral del Rey in 2007 when they found the gem of a building in a labyrinth of streets in the old Barrio Alfalfa neighbourhood.

The Reid brothers hired local architect Javier Betancourt and interior designer Kuky Mora-Figueroa to renovate the once dilapidated patrician house. The original tapestries, carved-wood ceilings and artefacts have all been maintained while introducing modern touches and intuitive technology.

The towering trio of floors built around a traditional Moorish style courtyard took two years to restore and excavate. The brothers succeeded in maintaining the romantic elements of both of their hotels and have apartments in another building with private terraces and plunge pools as they also are in the process of developing their vision for a fourth instalment in the Andalusian whitewashed town of Arcos de la Frontera.

OUR STORY

This charming and restored 17th century palace possesses 21st century exclusiveness along with historic gems and nostalgia from a previous era. Interior designer Kuky Mora-Figueroa has put a firm stamp on her striking, individual and appealing style, combining an eclectic mix of ancient and modern compositions.

Upon entering the hotel we were immediately invited for a welcome drink before being taken to our room where we warmly received a lovely welcome note and organic olive oil handpicked from their other hotel resort Hacienda San Rafael's fields.

Continental breakfast is included, and there’s a lobby bar with a limited tapas menu and a rooftop terrace that’s nice for a glass of wine. The friendly staff is more than happy to share their recommendations upon your requests. No one goes to Seville to hide out in a hotel, but Corral del Rey is the kind of home base you wish you could find on all of your travels.

Flat screen TVs, marble and glass baths and free WiFi are perfectly combined with the bohemian atmosphere. Burmese side tables, oversized Uzbek wall hangings, Scandinavian oak panelled floors and pieces by Spanish modernist painter Enrique Vara are some of the special details you can find in the hotel. It is the friendly service and extra touches that make this place quite exceptional: the fresh flowers in the bathroom, selection of tea and coffees and the restored furniture from a previous world. The main building is adorned with tapestries, candles, pictures and beautiful arches that makes it a heavenly place to lounge about and go to for breakfast service.
